J0sh45
Hey GuysI was doing static strength/WOD's for quite sometime until I fell out of consistancy, mainly because of my circumstances (lots of work and other things to do in life.)Since then, I've just been training static as a full work-out four times a week.I've absolutely had enough of that and I've realised that if my body is important to me then I will do whatever I have to do to progress/achieve what I want to achieve with it.Having said that, I'm just curious about the benefits of the WOD's.Is it alright just doing statics? What benefits do WOD's have? Is that where the REAL progress happens?I feel a bit silly writing this because I feel like I've answered my question already (my heads saying ofcoursethere are a lot of benefits you idiot)I can't help but feel I'm missing something though, some sort of ingredient that's preventing me from really putting in the effort and going for it with EVERYTHING.I think i'd just like to hear from experts about WHY so that I really get the massive impact it'll have on my health and fitness.I was doing a lot of cross training before I started gymnastics and I saw a MASSIVE improvement when I switched, however I've gone out of consistancy and I'm now worse then what I was before any of it.This is just not acceptable for me and I'm determined to get back on the horse and smash myself to get where I want to go!Looking forward to hearing from the experts
Cole Dano
The WODs are one of the two styles of workout routine currently recommended. The other is the Kilroy70 style which follows a more 'traditional' format and is more easily tailored to one's own life circumstances.Doing only the statics is better than nothing, but pairing them with FBEs appropriate to your level is going to be much better, and with good planning should take that much longer. It is also possible to do one in the morning the other in the evening if time is an issue. The WODs are very good, but this doesn't mean you are missing something by doing a different format of program. To some degree it depends on your life circumstance as well as training background.I did the WODs for the first year and a half I began the GB program, but realised I hadn't spent enough time with the fundamental building blocks, and began a Kilroy like program at the beginning of this year. Karri Kytömaa
Well if you have read the book, you know about the stories of guys with huge amount of success with just static training so it's certainly an option in a tight spot. However statics are all straight arm strength, so it is neglecting pretty big part of the training. Another problem with doing just statics is that your workload is pretty small which might become a limiting factor. I know couple of crossfitters with gymnastic influence and they train statics for strength and follow them with some metcon to get some bent arm stuff and to them the more important work capacity training.
