Hi there,

I'm new to the forum. When I was a kid, I always wanted to be a gymnast, but my mum could never afford the classes. So I recently had the crazy idea that I would teach myself. I'm 25. It's going pretty well! I have learnt how to do a handstand, cartwheel, headstand, arch, splits, front walkover and front handspring. Next, I really really want to get my back walkover... but I just don't know how I go from an arch to kicking over? I can do this if I kick off of an elevated surface, like my tampoline, but I can't figure out how I get over from floor level. I can start from standing bend backwards into an arch, and then kick off of my trampoline to go over - so I think I should have the basic skills necessary to do a back walkover- but how do I do it withou the help?

I would really really appreciate any advice or tips that will help me to get my full back walkover. If anybody could tell me how I get the extra lift to go over from the floor I'd be so happy. I really want to get this down! I always wanted to be a gymnast. And while it may be too late for me to learn to compete, it's not too late for me to learn the skills, right? I'd really be so grateful for any help. I've always wanted to be bale to do this, and I feel so close, I just don't know where I'm going wrong / what I'm missing.

Thank you in advice for any replies!

:)

This sounds more like a technical gymnastics element that might benefit from a good spotter. Though it's not something I know too much about.

I assume that you'd probably need a solid bridge before doing this kind of move.

Get your bridge

Work on holding bridge to where it is comfortable and the curvature of the spine isn't limited to one area.

Start working bridge to handstand from and elevated surface.

Work in bridge downs to elevated surface.

Combine bridge down and bridge to handstand and then come out of it.
