- That sounds very reasonable.
- Should the testing fee then be adjusted to a PE1 etc evaluation fee or step fee rather than an overall level fee?

I am heading out of town for my daughter's competition, but please keep the discussion going.
I will check back in later tonight.
Yes, we should adjust the fee accordingly when we decide on one.
Great progress on this!
I totally agree, best to group each step together. Also makes sense to charge by each group submitted.
So for F1
Group 1: FL/PL/SL/MN/SLS/HBP/RC: PE1 + PE1>iM
Group 2: FL/PL/SL/MN/SLS/HBP/RC: PE2 + PE2>iM
Level 0.5: FL/PL/SL/MN/SLS/HBP/RC: PE3 + PE3>iM
Group 4: FL/PL/SL/MN/SLS/HBP/RC: PE4 + PE4>iM
Group 5: FL/PL/SL/MN/HBP/RC: PE5 + PE5>iM
Level 1: FL/PL/SL/MN/HBP/RC: PE1 + PE1>iM & SLS SE1 + SE1>iM

Then there is the question of retesting.
Throwing out an idea here. What if we didn't give a free retest at all? If you fail, you have to resubmit (of course you could re-use passing videos from earlier)
Testing results would be in the form of pass / fail nothing else.
Price point of the testing could reflect this. But would be made up, because it would encourage trainees to use the Single Element OLC either before submitting if they have doubts (preferred) or after to get help with doing better for the next attempt.
My motive for suggesting this is to find a way to integrate the various services.
Out and about here will post more later.
Nice breakdown Cole.
Interesting on the Pass/Fail with no other info. I could see frustration here if they were not told what to fix at least. I just don't want it to feel like we are forcing people into other services is all.
As always, just getting ideas flowing, nothing more.
Certainly what I put out was the most severe scenario.
The goal is less to force, and more to create a 'seamless' system of services that work together.
Perhaps keep it simple: if they need to fix more than X number of videos, they fail. Less than X number of videos needing fixing and they pass with deficiencies and need to resubmit those. If nothing needs fixed, they pass.
Great idea!
As long as the form checks are priced to allow someone to affordably do a couple if they are afraid to miss on a level test, we should be in good standing with the members.
Yeah if we do it by level I would say retest of 2 elements. So you have to know you own most of them before trying.
Current outlook -
Level Testing Structure
- Level Tests will be broken down into subgroups, with Level awards given at the .5 intervals indicated on the Everyday Strength Chart
- Test results will be Pass/ Conditional / Fail
- Pass = All elements in group pass
- Conditional = Failed maximum of two elements / Eligible for for free retest of those elements within 14 days
- Fail = must retake entire test at own expense
- Each component element will be pass or fail, with a minimal amount of explanation as to why failed.
Pricing
- Price $25 per test group
Guidelines
- One camera angle per element, similar to the angle used in the Course video (unless otherwise specified)
vs
- multiple angles
Groupings so far -
Group 1: FL/PL/SL/MN/SLS/HBP/RC: PE1 + PE1>iM
Group 2: FL/PL/SL/MN/SLS/HBP/RC: PE2 + PE2>iM
Level 0.5: FL/PL/SL/MN/SLS/HBP/RC: PE3 + PE3>iM
Group 4: FL/PL/SL/MN/SLS/HBP/RC: PE4 + PE4>iM
Group 5: FL/PL/SL/MN/HBP/RC: PE5 + PE5>iM
Level 1: FL/PL/SL/MN/HBP/RC: PE1 + PE1>iM & SLS SE1 + SE1>iM

Still to be determined -
- Retest grace period (30 days seems reasonable to me)
- Pricing
- Coaching Software Solution
- Online testing guidelines ( one angle vs. multiple views)
- anything else?
Lets say something closer to "Conditional" instead of "Exception." We don't want to convey that they are able to be excused out of any part of the requirements.
Was going to type this up after teaching today. Thanks Cole.
I think 30days is plenty. Could even be 14. They should not need a mini-cycle to fix the issue.
Conditional is good. Unless it is a cleared and discussed injury issue than everything is required. Just keeps it clear.
Camera angles we touched on before. Side or head on depending on element. The angles used in F1 are good guidelines.
Pricing.....$20 ???
Sorry Nic, didn't mean jump in ahead of you,
At $20 it will be $60 per 1/2 level step. We were talking $50 before, with 1/3 as many videos to judge.
Will this be enough to make it worthwhile?
On the plus side, at $20 price will not be a barrier, and there can be no qualms in using the Single Element OLC along the way. Which I'd like to think will help make up for it.
I was originally thinking 14 days, but thought you guys would say I'm crazy. I think 14 days is better, shouldn't have to drag these out.
I will edit the summary post above to reflect the latest thoughts so Coach won't have to read everything.
- $25 per test
- 14 days to submit retest
- How difficult is it to require the student to submit a single video with two angles shown within a single video? For example, the main screen shows a sideways shot with an embedded smaller frame showing a frontal shot or vice versa.
I like the pricing and retest timeframe. Level 4 certification is very cheap by industry standards. Even multiplying it by multiple areas, it's very affordable.Coach Sommer said:- $25 per test

Knowing how many train in small spaces or crowded spaces, camera set up etc for multiple angles may be the biggest challenge.
Could they use a single camera for each shot and then edit the two angles together?
Based on how many customers can't even click a download link without problems, asking too much editing may mean a lot of support tickets for help.
Perhaps we could create a short instructional clip that would alleviate the majority of their difficulty with this.
I hate to say it but that's all part of my worry with multiple angles.
Just remember Coach $25. Not exactly a Spielberg budget.
- It is however very difficult to maintain a high quality of movement unless we can effectively evaluate their performance.
- Perhaps the testing fee needs to increase?
- Pardon my Saturday night humour!
If you believe two angles are needed, then let's find a way to get it done:
It may be we provide multiple options to satisfy?
- One camera, two takes
- One camera, moved during the set by a second party
- Two cameras, one take
Price:
- This is really your call Coach
- From my POV this is as much for regular trainees as it is for those who aspire to later be certified. For that reason a lower price point is good.
- We can make up the difference between lay and pro with the other testing and mentoring programs under discussion
- $25 is a sweet spot where people won't think too much about spending. If you are looking for many lay people to do the level testing this is a good price. $35 would be the high end here, and Nic's $20 the low. The absolute ceiling would be $50
I like 25 that feels good. 30 would start pushing people I think. Second party filming is ideal as the camera can move during the set but is not always feasible for people. We want participation especially if we go the GB competition route. Perhaps also an option to test at seminars. Done either before or after the regular hours with extra cost applied. People as Cory said fail using the forums so filming is an issue.
