Multi-plane movements

I have a question about multi-plane movements: should I do them instead of pushups\pull-ups in different planes or combine these exercises?

My preference is that you first master single plane movements prior to commencing mult-plane work.

So just to clarify should I keep doing single-plane movements when I'll start working on multi-plane movements, combining them in some way? Or should I work on single-plane movements from time to time at that point?
