Wheelson
In my next cycle I plan to include 2 isometric stretching days. As I read in relax into stretch, the author recommends mastering the roadkill stretch before focusing on the middle split. Can someone give insight to either support or refute this assessment? It seems logical to me, but I wanted a second opinion before focusing my efforts on something that won't help me reach my flexibility goals. Thanks in advanced,Will
Blairbob
While it's not the same as a middle split, it's very similar. I used to alternate them with my gymnasts. A 180 pancake split and this roadkill stretch are pretty much the same thing. We would do a drill where a gymnast would go from middle split to stomach on ground while legs are split. For myself and those kids with side/pancake splits, we basically wouldn't move since we could just roll our hips through to being on our stomach. For those kids who were a few inches to 6-12 inches off the ground, they were agony and trying. It wasn't uncommon for some of them to be unable to push out of their straddle sit/pancake to middle split.
