Where to start the balance in HS

Hi, I'm training my HS, against the wall, yet :-)

I'm trying to see what's the right way to balance, I'm trying to open my shoulders but when I loose balance I naturally try to catch my balance back with the shoulders.

Is this right? Should I try to catch the balance with my elbows?

I know that we must balance using only the hands but I also know that my wrist strengh isn't there yet, and I'm also training that..

As long as you understand that the aim is to get tight and balance from the wrist, both of the options you mention are ok, they are different for sure but i don't think its possible to state one is unequivocally better than the other.

In the beginning most will prefer to use the elbows, but as part of getting the shoulders to press i would work towards being able to use the shoulders which will of course require that they are open and strong.

In watching different balancers you will see some differences in technique, our friend Mikael uses his elbow quite a bit in his one arm balancing for example.
