Rolls in the rings strength series

So in all the ring strength series there is always a roll. In ring strength three there is a support to front roll into support which looks like a rolling muscle up almost. In number one there is a backwards roll into back lever. If you cannot do a forward roll or a backwards roll what do you do? Do you leave it out of the series? And ultimately, how does one build up to being able to do forward and backward rolls on the rings without someone to spot them through the movement? Thanks.

If you cannot perform a forward roll into a MU, you would simply lower down into a regular MU. If you are unable to roll backward, you would lower down through a MU to a hang and then pull to the inverted hang position prior to moving to your BL position.

What are the prerequisites for beginning rolls? If I cannot yet do a Muscle Up, should I be doing rolls? Right now when I do the series I will do an assisted Muscle Up, like a jumping muscle up and then attempt the backwards roll. I can do it, but do not end in the support position and I really don't have any control (so I don't know how safe it is).

The roll is more about having a tight false grip right near the transition phase. You need to learn to stay tight and not be afraid during your roll. At first, you will prolly fall too fast and not maintain a tight false grip near the transition and you will fall out of it. However, if you maintain your false grip even if you fall below being near the transition, just pull back up through MU and try again :P

I believe rolls done without the false grip are possible for both front and back rolls, but obviously the difficulty would increase.
