Hivoyer
Just wanted to post a quick tip for those doing tae kwon do - when doing the SLS i found it to be a LOT more helpful for strenghtening your kicks if you do it on the knife edge of the foot(on a carpet or something soft if you're bare footed) and lifting the free leg sideways at 90 degrees. Joshua Naterman
Interesting! Better make sure you do some weighted middle split holds a bit off the ground to balance knee strength! Otherwise you'll end up pre-disposing yourself to injury. You should also spend half your SLS time doing them as shown in the book, because you don't want to lose the posterior chain strength it gives! When you alter the position you alter the muscles used and their degree of involvement, and may be teaching a pattern of movement that is potentially harmful in the long run. Good thinking by the way, I'm not trying to make you feel like I think your suggestion is crap! I am just pointing out the safety precautions that WILL need to be put into practice in order to avoid injury or compensation patterns.
