Jorge Murguido 251702
I have a question about the pelvis position when doing flexibility work. Should one use an anterior pelvic tilt when doing pikes, straddles and split work or should the pelvis be more neutral?
Alessandro Mainente
Hi Jorger, it depends on the position and before all, it depends on the goal. think about pike position. if the goal it the full body posterior chain stretch you should look for neutral to PPT position. if the goal is the posterior legs chain stretch you should look for APT. so simply DEPENDS.
Jorge Murguido 251702
Alright one more question when doing static stretching should I do it before or after a workout?
Alessandro Mainente
It depends: -on your actual level of mobility; -on the range of motion you have to reach in the following training exercises; -on the range of motion you reach during the stretch exercises; -on the strength level of the stretched muscles; -on the muscles involved during the next training session; -on the time under tension during the stretch; -on the type of routine, you have to do after (strength, endurance, power, power endurance etc). So there is no unique answer. generally speaking before any type of work involving a decent amount of muscles work you should do dynamic work. static work with long holds is preferable after. With Pikes yes, you want to stretch your hips and if you roll your pelvis away you are missing the stretch. With front split work, it depends on if you are more interested in stretching your front (quads/psoas) or your rear (hamstrings). From there you should understand the straddle stretch, it just depends on where you are weak.
