How to safely implement stretch series'? (Beginner)

In general...Are the stretch series' recommended as something a beginner should implement? Or is it best to make some amount of progress through F1 and/or H1 (in regards to strength and mobility) before implementing a more intense/focused stretching routine? 

I am 32 years old. I am returning to training after a few years off due to work/school/life etc. I own F1, H1, and all three Stretch Series. I have decided to start everything back at step-1. I really want to take coach's advice to be patient and allow myself to safely and properly readjust to training (aka - I'm not in my 20's anymore). I know the stretch series' are fairly intense in and of themselves (at least for beginners). Should I wait until I've trained consistently with F1 and H1 for a while before I worry about adding in the stretch series components?

Or ... (a crazy thought) Do it vice-versa and use solely the three stretch series' for a while to gain back some needed mobility before implementing the strength aspects of F1 and H1

Hi @Michael Pehl,

It's a good thing to use the stretch series from the beginning since it will help you to progress in your training.  Do them once a week along your F7 and H1.  

If it's too intense, you can start with what you're able to do in the series before it becomes too hard.  With time, you will progress through the series until you can do all of them.

Thanks! From what Ive tried out, I know for sure there are some parts of the stretch series' (especially thoracic bridge) that are too difficult for me to perform even with scaled-back versions of the movements. For example, no matter how elevated my feet are I lack the shoulder strength/positioning to press my head off of the ground. So its ok with the stretch series to start with only the movements Im able to perform and over time work my way toward the more advanced stretches and positions?

Depending on your limitations...

-shoulder...?

-groin..?

-posterior chain..?

You can choose one or more stretch courses.

Coach Sommer's best suggestion it is to restore first the posterior chain...this is probably one of the best intelligent things I've learned from him!

Hi Leo, (Paul please excuse my jumping on this thread but I had a similar question.)

To Paul's other question, I too can't get into the bridge position os have to skip those exercises (or flap around trying but failing). Is the idea that you do the other work in the video until that becomes possible, skipping those parts, or are there supplemental exercises to progress to the bridge?

Hi Thomas,

just start by doing the first part of the series to begin with. As your strength and flexibility improves you will be able to get into the elevated bridge position and feeling the Stretch the right places :)
