Fingertip push ups

I experience alot of strain/pain in my fingers doing these. They are safe right, as in if I use appropriate progressions I shouldn't have anything to worry about?

edit: After reading a post on another forum I tried them with fingertips flexed rather then what looked pretty much like hyperextended and felt no pain. It was alot harder, but painless.

Hmm, I never had any problems doing them with straight fingers or bent (like Tiger Claw). Scale them appropriately and you should be fine.
