Pain in front of hip after side splits

Hello everyone,

I recently started started training the side splits 4 days ago. Now I have pain in front of my hips, that hurt whenever I flex my hips with straight legs from a spine position. The pain is present at the bottom range and it's relatively sharp.

Don't get me wrong, I can still do L-sits and all that stuff, but it's hurting and cracking especially when raising my leg from a supine position.

Any advices on this? Help of any sort is appreciated (accept the "go to the doctor" thing).

Hi Nicolas,

See a physio as soon as you can! Painful cracking combined with pain in the hip is NOT something to train through or tamper with. Get an in-person diagnosis and avoid irritating it in the meantime. I know this is exactly the advice you were trying to avoid but the internet is no place to get a diagnosis for something like this.

Spot on advice by Everett Nicholas. Make sure you get it checked out.

Totally agree with Everett and Luke. Usually the advice of go and see a doctor or physiotherapist is given because it is the best advice.

Have an expert check it out in person a diagnosis and then go from there.

I know, it's the safest way, to get the most accurate diagnosis. However I train the side splits since 5 days now and I can't imagine, that something very bad happened in such a small period of time.

At first, I'll rest for one week and see how it feels. Maybe it'll go away with rest. If not, then I'll get it checked by a doctor.

Everybody's advice would have been based on the fact that in your post you mentioned that it was sharp pain. Sharp pain is usually the body's way of telling you something is wrong.

If you find that the issue does not resolve itself after a period of rest then it is definitely worth while to go and get checked out.

Best of luck in your recovery.

When pain it is presented you MUST see a specialist. during split work there is an high involvement of the hip capsule which needs to recover before to be mobilized again! if not pain occurs. see a PT.

no more advice are allowed.
