handstand push-ups vs pull-ups

I have seen many girls doing pull-ups. I can also do around 10-12 good deadhang pull-ups.

So, I can pull my own body weight at least 10 times. But I can not do a single handstand push ups. Honestly, I do pull-ups almost daily, versus Handstand Push-Ups I never train at all. All I do is push-ups. But I have the impression that pushing up bodyweight is harder than pulling up?

Also, I never see any female gymnasts training Handstand Push-Ups, but they do tons of rope climbs and pull-ups!

Would Handstand Push-Ups help with press handstands or any other gymnastics related thing?

Should I aim for the same amount of Handstand Push-ups like Pull-Ups?

Thank You!

Compare the anterior delts with the lats. There's so much more muscle mass involved in pullups, so our physiology is more naturally adapted to that exercise.

I would imagine that handstand pushups would be overall beneficial for your gymnastic ability, including handstand presses; I'm no expert, however.

Thanks for the reply and info! Interesting topic IMO...

To be an elite gymnast in my country, you have to pass a test. It includes pull-ups, rope climb, leg lifts, kip extensions, long jump, handstand presses and flexibility but no pushing strength at all. I now many elite girls who can pull-up 10-15 times, rope clim, cast to handstand etc but can hardly do dips and now way of handstand push-ups.

I can do more handstand push up then pullup, seriously.

the fact is that you cannot be strong in something that you are not used to train.

Btw the body for his conformation is done for pulling more then pushing.

Girls should do handstand push ups, I have a long video of a 1996 pre olympic event where female romanian team was doing full rom handstand push up for 9-10 reps with spotter.

Did the spotter help or just to balance? Which muscles are used? Is it the same as planting strength? And would it help at least a little in press handstands?

Help only for balance.

Muscles involved are triceps and shoulders for the pushing movement, while serratus anterior, rotator cuff, high ,medium and lower traps for stabilization, core for bodyline.

Bent arm strength will helps specifically for bent arm strength , press to handstand is shoulders flexion with straight arms and active hips mobility.

Marta Karolyis National Team Warmup had 20 HeSPU in it, so...Pretty sure it had 20 pullups in there as well.
