Burning sensation in shoulder when extended

I get a burning sensation in my right shoulder when I raise my arm up as high as I can and when I do a handstand while trying to stretch up as high as possible. If I stretch my shoulder at the same time as flexing it (like the stretch where you grasp your wrist and put both arms as high and opened-up as possible above your head), it burns even more. In this last case, the burning will get more intense until I stop the stretch. Then it goes away. I'm wondering if it is the muscle getting used to the new active range of motion or if it sounds bad.

You are working too hard and need to allow the shoulder girdle (specifically the trapezius to rest). My recommendation is that you do not resume your upper body training for at least one to two weeks.

The pain is in the deltoid, mostly the back of the medial deltoid and front of the posterior deltoid. It's slightly tender to the touch at the point where that long rear bone (acromion it looks like) joins to the muscle. I don't think it's impingement because it feels like a mucle problem. I'm glad Coach said to rest because deep down I knew that but I didn't want to believe it. I foolishly worked out yesterday and made it a little worse (before I read Coach's reply). Why are some trainees so stupid? It reminds me of when Coach said the best way to make him angry was to try to conceal an injury.

Impingement can be irritated tendon or muscle. Could also be bursitis or a nerve issue.

Most shoulder problems near the surface are because of compression or overuse inflammation.
