Not sure if i posted this in the correct place but i have an issue ive been trying to solve for weeks now.

I do yoga twice a week and practice arm balancing a lot and ive also been trying some static holds from coach sommer but ive recently developed an ache in both of my forearms whenever i do any arm balances.

I place my palms flat on the floor and dig in with my fingers so that my palm is gripping into the floor especially from the knuckle area and base of the palm and then i go into a handstand or whatever im doing but as soon as i come down and start to release the pressure i get an ache about midway in my forearms along the pinky finger side, close to the bone, it also feels very tight all along that side of my forearms.

Interestingly i noticed a contortionist placing his palms on the floor but raising his knuckles up so that his hands make a triangular shape - i uploaded a picture for clarity. When i use that grip there is no pressure feeling in my forearms at all, apart from the old residual ache.

So it seems to me that my grip is affecting how my forearms are used but could the pain also be from overuse? Does it sound like splints or something else?? it would also be helpful if someone could also advise me on exactly the best way to place my hands, grip, and apply pressure.

thanks in advance for any help!

There is such a thing as "forearm splints" in gymnastics (shin splint equivalent)... which means I guess it would technically be medial ulnar stress syndrome.  Happens mostly with horse and static holds.  It's an overuse injury... disproportionate physiologic stress to recovery.  Like most overuse injuries, the treatment is relative rest from offending activities, slow integration while pain free and with proper form.

very useful advice and information. I will do these exercises and see what the doctor has to say when that time comes.

i guess the obvious also is to rest for a while and give it time to recover.

i appreciate the help
