Karl-Erik Karlsen
Hey!I'm currently following F1 and HS1 - also doing a beginner's acrobatics session per week.I have had some trouble with the left shoulder years ago, from lifting weights - maybe some kind of impingement thing or imbalanced musculature/rotator cuff problem. However, that's not painful anymore and seems to have pretty much resolved after laying of the standard gym exercises and taking up more functional training and GST.But when trying to do backward rolls, I notice there's assymetry between my arms. The right arm hits the spot well, but on the left side I struggle to place my palm correctly by my head and when trying to push off the floor, the left elbow flares out. The right elbow stays at a reasonable 20-30 degree angle out from the face.I think maybe this was also limiting me when trying to learn muscle-ups on rings - when pulling my elbows back at the top of the pull, the left elbow again flared out and restricted my movement so I couldn't point both elbows well back and up towards the ceiling. It's not extremely pathological - but I end up with the left elbow somewhere between 45 and 60 degrees out from the body (as compared to the right elbow - 20-45 degrees, depending on how far I take the shoulder into flexion/extension) and it's really limiting my movement.Anybody have any good stretches or mobility drills I could do to balance out the shoulders in these two positions:-Bent arm overhead-Bent arm behind backor any other suggestions to what might be wrong and how to fix it?The left shoulder does feel a bit tighter and gives out a lot faster when pressing overhead for extended repetitions. So I'd like to work on this parallel to the rest of my training so it won't hold me back when I get further up the road.Any input is greatly appreciated - thanks!
