For the record, I agree with the Chinese. What's not to agree with? They have the best gymnasts, the longest intact history of acrobatic training, and Jackie Chan.

Just use elastic compression with the heat, stay elevated, and cycle the heat with some cold, and you should be fine.

 

heat does speed up healing, just make sure that you know how to use it within the context of your specific needs.

Anything from 2 weeks to 10 years - it all depends on how much damage you've done and if you'll have the discipline to rest and heal without re-injuring yourself.

Only time will tell. :)
