My One Arm Handstand + Valuable Lessons

This was my OAHS, not the peak but some of the better ones on camera.

I practised a lot and my record was 18 seconds straddled on my right arm, although I never caught this on camera, (the longest was around 10 on camera) it felt like a lucky one.

Ater all that training though I had to stop due to blood pressure headaches. I trained foolishly, going again and again with little rest. Let this be a warning to ye handbalancers, take your time, and breath.

Also the importance of having flexible shoulders. Mine were and still are very tight, causing my back to arch a lot, I did not realise at the time but this is one of the key reasons.

Alas, I cannot and do not train it anymore due to the headaches, but here was some of my attempts.

RIP OAHS

Do you only do one arm handstands on your right arm?

Based on what you say, if you have been pushing and pushing yourself and are constantly on that one arm, and your back arched like that, then it is possible you have overused a muscle in your neck/back area and developed a trigger point. This can lead to headaches when you try and use the muscle. Trigger points can reside in the neck muscle but actually cause the pain in your head. And it feels like a "headache."

Try feeling around your neck area for any sensitive parts and press on them. If you feel pain shoot up into your brain, then it is probably a trigger point.

Try doing a one arm handstand on your other arm and see if you get a headache.

B/c there is no reason you should get headaches from being upside down for 18 seconds...

I'm not a doctor though, so as always go see your doctor before taking any medical advice online.

you are doing a lot of extra movement to balance, which is very inefficient.

It is impressive you can balance like that, but it could use some refinement to get a more "still" balance
