cg
I have been training for several years now, and a couple of months ago I began to develop a very noticable noise in my right elbow. I would describe it as more of a crunching/ crackling noise without pain. It only seems to activate when doing pullup activities (palms away), and not chinups (palms in). I've not trained on it for over a month now but it still persists. Has anyone had a simular problem. I have tried rest as well as the usual fish oil and glucosamine routines to no avail and am anxious to get back to training full force.Chris G. chauinc
Yeah i get that noise when i go into the v seat position. There isn't any pain but i'm also worried about the sound. Anyone else know what the cause is or if it is harmful?
Nrxszvo
Come to think of it. I occasionally get a snapping noise in my elbows when also doing pull ups. I've never taken alot of notice of it since it wasn't painful. But it would be great if anyone has any information on this. Seems as though alot of my other joints make spanning movements in certain situations. If I do ankle circles my ankles snap, and same with my wrists! My hips snap constantly if I go from having my hips in a straight leg position, to pull my knees up to my chest, for example. I read some information on the net and aparently that could be snapping hip syndrome, but I got no idea!Sorry for adding questions onto another forum members post! Hope everyone doesn't mind!Peace and Love,Mike
IvanPS
I get the cracking in my knees, elbows, wrists and neck and so far I've always thought about it as simmilar to finger cracking... :?
mikey88
As long as the snapping noise isnt painful it shouldnt really be a problem. The snap is caused by the build of of air in the joint. Then when the joint moves the air pocket is released from it which then makes the snapping sound.Usually snapping in the joints are cause either by tight muscles or by a muscle imbalance. Im not quite sure of the reason but this seems to lead to an increase in popping joints. The best thing to get to get rid of it is to work on some stretching exercise for, in your case the elbows and wrist which should hopefully resolve it in a month or two.As far as snapping hip Nrxszvo I think yours again is just the build up of air in the joints so nothing to worry about. Actual snapping hip is often a painful condition where the tendon connected to the iliotibial band (a muscle running down the side of the thigh) moves over the greater trochanter (which is the bump on the side of your hip) which makes this snap. This is a condition which takes stretching, massaging and possible physical therapy to resolve.Hope this helpscheersMike
Nrxszvo
Thanks for the helpful information Mike! The snapping you are refering to, I believe may be different to the one I am refering too. Although, my knuckles click, which is due to the realise of air in the joints as once I have clicked them, they no longer do it for an extended period of time. However, in my ankles, hips and wrists, it's more of a constant grinding feeling. Which like you said about snapping hip syndrome seems to be the issue with all three joints. It feels as if tendons, or something similar are rubbing across one another. Which could be down to tight areas around the joints! So, I guess I could be answering my own question here, and say I need to do some proper stretching for each of the three joints, as I know myself that my ankles and wrists are relatively weak. And my hips/lower back is terribly inflexible! Writing things down kinda helps me understand things Time for me to do some more reading on the forum for ankles, hips and wrists! Thanks for the help! *reading mode activated*Peace and Love,Mike
chauinc
Well the sound isn't so much a pop it's more of a crunching sound. For example when you eat chips you hear that crunch thats kinda what it sounds like.
cg
The crunching sound Chaunic described is definitly what I have also. Thanks for the response Mikey88, However I can't say that I am familiar with any stretching exercises for the elbows.thanksChris G. mikey88
Stretching the elbow is basically just stretching the forearms. Hold for at least 30s and repeat 3 timeshttp://content.revolutionhealth.com/con ... 57_006.jpghttp://www.localrehab.com/images/streac19.jpgMike
