Gator
Long time weight lifter here, finally happy with my size and now I just wanna make my body harder/denser and gymnastics seems very interesting.my question, is it possible for someone my height and weight to ever hit these advanced holds and movements or would sacrificing weight be inevitable? I mean I havent seen too many big gymnast but I hope Im wrong. My hats of to you guys I never knew just how hard this type of stuff was. I got the book Btgb.....so far the most impressive thing I can do is an L-sit on my dip bars for a few seconds lol I always thought I was strong till I tried holding up my own body
Coach Sommer
No, not at all. Slizzardman is your height and weight, erik at 6'6" is taller but lighter at approx 190, and big Paul Watson (Transform Fitness in NYC) is much more heavily built (he is immense) and doing quite well also.Yours in Fitness,Coach Sommer
Gator
Welcome to the forums and of course you aren't too big. There are a good number of guys here around your build and more and more people are joining asking the same questions. I think you will find that your body will cut weight where is isn't necessary with gymnastics training but it will most certainly add a lot of density to your body and the holds you are thinking of are just as hard for the rest of us. Like anything else, it takes dedicated and smart training. Stick with it and you will love it. You will see how much MORE strength this type of training will add to your current weight training. This is by no means a fast process, but one that is more than worth it in the long run. And even during that long run, your gains will be incredible if you stick with a solid regimen and are most vigilant with your form.thanks for the reply, Im only two weeks in and already see a change in my body and muscle density! I know this will take time and Ill have to be patient but I really like the idea of progressing towards new goals instead of adding weight every week or two but still doing the same movements, Im bored of that, gymnastics seems like it will keep my attention more easily. I dont really care about weights (never did) just used them to get big but numbers didnt mean too much to me. Ive quit lifting altogether with the exception of dead lifts so Im really gonna focus on this 100%. Even tho my goal has always been asthetics for the first time Im actually interested in being strong. You can brag about how much you bench but that just makes you look silly or, you can get on the ground and rep out a few planche push ups that would make you lool like a total bad assI'll update this thread every so often with pics and updates on how Im progressingNo, not at all. Id like to say Im awaiting release of your other books but I think BtGB will keep me busy for the next few years
