Vincent Stoyas
I finally found a gymnastics place that allows adults in. Its only one open gym session a week.the drive is 50 miles, so I was wondering if it is worth it/what to expect. At open gyms is there a coach there that can help you, or is it mainly, do your own thing and leave? Blairbob
Eek. Go once, most first times are free trials. However, I would immediately look and ask one of the coaches for help if it's an open gym. If it's run by a coach, it's hard to say if they will know anything about Men's events and they might or might not be an experienced coach. It really is a gamble. I'd still try at least once. If time and budget allows, I'd probably still do it to get access to said gym equipment (like long rings and parallel bars).
Vincent Stoyas
Ah, so most of the time it is just do what you're gonna do and leave?I was hoping for a little more. I just moved here and there's literally nothing to do in this part of Arizona.. I'll take the drive within a few weeks and figure out if it's worth it. It might be worth it anyways just to get out to do something.Any rules of etiquette that need to be said?
Blairbob
It's hard to say what their open gym is like. They are not all the same. I took a very active approach when I coached the adult class, especially with beginners. With the seasoned ex gymnasts, I kept my eye on them, pushed them or helped them and bounced around from the groups or events they were on. While some adult classes are just open gyms. So either ask them how they run it or try it out. Even if the coach barely helps, you can probably learn from someone knowledgeable either in the class or one of the coaches possibly coaching team groups.
