Blairbob
What's your budget like? Are you looking for something that is pre/during workout or post workout or Meal Replacement? Ideally, I would say add in Glutamine and BCAA's, especially Leucine. For my purposes, I'm not big on creatine due to water retention. I don't care about size if it means I have to get heavier. Yes, I know all about ATP, etc. For my programming, I don't think the fact that I'm not using creatine or beta alanine, or etc limits my workout performance, especially since I'm following a SSC so I'm not trying to push myself for that extra rep. Yeah, my joints don't need that. But I'm not pursuing hypertrophy and I'm not very concerned about it for myself or athletes unless it's necessary. Hydrolyzed whey or casein absorbs really fast but it's expensive. If you were looking for a more rounded post workout protein, I would add in egg or casein protein, especially if it was something before bedtime. Or you could just drink milk or eat egg whites or eggs. But if you don't/can't drink milk due to the amount of calories or allergens, etc; it would make sense. There should probably be some carbohydrate in there. I just generally eat something fruity PWO to complement my PWO shake. The Super Bovine protein intrigues but is way out of my budget. Oh well, so is colostrum. Rilose is intriguing as well.
yuri marmerstein
hmm the prices seem a bit expensive on this site. I used to order from true protein but haven't in a while so they might have jacked their prices as well. I just buy whey from costco now and use gatorade powder for intra-workout carbs plus bcaa and glutamine. anyway for protein i would keep it simple like 75% whey concentrate, 25% milk protein or caseinfor carbs dextrose is cheap and effective, but I would get it separate from the proteinI know the body fortress brand sold at walmart puts aminos and creatine in their whey for something like $15 for a two pound jug, not bad. costco whey is $36 for a 6 pound bag(used to be under $30)
acegerter
Thanks for the tips guys...I'll have to check into Costco forsure...The pre-mixed stuff they have, I think it's CFM Whey, was 10.80/lbs but thats still pricy compared to what you just mentioned...Right now I'm using a version of this http://www.nutritiondome.com/protein-plus-ch.htmlwhich seems to be decently priced ($23/30scoops at Trader Joe's). Thanks again fellas
Blairbob
CFM Whey is a lot more than Whey concentrate. I don't bother with it unless you want faster absorption or looking for less carbs. Honestly, whey concentrate doesn't have a lot of carbs. You can often find whey concentrate from the online protein stores for about $5/lb not including shipping.
