Darius
Hello all, just a short introduction and a video. I'm a gymnastics coach in Barbados (in the Caribbean), and just made a little compilation of my own training in the last few months. Any tips are appreciated!UhHxCnPAk-M
Neal Winkler
Welcome!Tell us about how you have incorporated Coaches work into the training at your gym. Also, I'm sure a lot of people here will be very excited to get some tips on tumbling from you! Darius
Thanks! My coaching and training are definitely separate except for when I'm working with our 'elite' athlete Corey. (he's the one spotting my double backs) Since he's our only high level gymnast, he likes a little motivation when he's training, so I'll work out with him sometimes. In terms of Coach Sommer's stuff though, I've been working through the ring series and have had some serious strength increases over a very short time. Definitely very impressed and have started implementing some of it into my boy's program.

Darius
Thanks Yuri. Watching your rings planche's and handstands is my current inspiration for rings work!
Joshua Naterman
Great work Darius! The only thing that sticks out to me is that during your tick tocks you pike through the inverted hang instead of starting to lower down straight and adjusting your body position to suit your strength level as you drop. Does that make sense? I don't even know if what you are doing is necessarily "wrong" in Coach's eyes, but I know that when i was working tick tocks before I got overzealous with the planche work (sigh) I focused on maintaining straight body as I lowered until I felt it start to get hard(at first this was like 30 degrees past inverted) and then I'd go to sort of a bent leg straddle and then close up smoothly as I approached FL or BL into a tuck or flat tuck. That helped me get strong fast because I was getting used to the straight body positon degree by degree. It's harder to do that way but I'm pretty sure you'd get better results. You really do have a crazy high double back! Wow!
Darius
Yeah you may be right. I'd stopped lowering with a straight body and pulling out from german hang because of the stress on my elbows. That was a while ago though and my elbows have become stronger so its probably time to go back at it.
Joshua Naterman
Definitely approach with caution when lowering through BL and add just a few degrees of motion each week, at the most. You'll be there before you know it! You'll probably want to do a lot of lowering through straddle BL before you try full lay. I'd say work straddle lowering for at least 2 months, and then start closing the straddle. Since you are already working straddle BL, if you don't feel THAT in your elbows then you should be absolutely fine lowering down with straddle. Pulling up may be a different story. Just make sure you straighten out at the inverted hang so that you can start in a proper full lay when coming down towards FL! Again, adjust the body position as necessary there too. Marlon
Damn, I was just in Barbados last week. I wish I had known there was a gym with rings and a place to tumble on the island, I would have loved to been able to spend some time training while I was there
