do olympic ring specialists train with pull ups, dips. or do they train only with skill exercises ( Iron cross, front/back lever, Malatese, top planche ) ? is the immense muscle just a side effect of skill exercises ? or is the muscle from pull ups/dips etc ?

Coach is obviously the best person to answer this question but from what I have seen and read there main focus is on advanced strength skills like Maltese, Inverted cross, Cross etc. And they work these in strength sequences.

I have seen USA team member Jake Dalton do some basic strength circuits on youtube that include things like pullups and dips but it seemed more like supplementary work.

Coach has mentioned regularly that the incredible muscle that you see on the ring specialist's is built from the straight arm strength work that they perform on the rings.

HI Nicholas, their hypertrophy it is due to the nature of the supplemental conditioning workout. the ability to perform circuit for pushing of pulling with a specific range of reps, set and rest will lead to anatomical adaptations. this type of conditioning for them it no more then the last part of the training session and it has a very low perceived intensity for them.
