Core and lower body only??

I'm having shoulder reconstruction soon so upper body work is out for a while but I'd like to get started on lower body and core work in the meantime if I can. Ive had a lot of injuries from lifting, running, and BJJ over the years and I dont want to go down that road this time. My question is this: Which course should I start to stay busy with lower body/ hip mobility and core work while I'm in recovery with my shoulder? Or should I just start from the beginning skipping all upper body work and then repeat the courses after my shoulder has recovered? I know very little about this type of training so this may may be impossible, I'm just trying to get something postive out of this downtime. Thanks

Hi Dylan,

Good questions! Fundamentals is always suggested as the starting point as it is the best place to get introduced to GST. There are some exercises in Fundamentals that you will have to skip but there will be plenty of lower body and core work in there. After the 30 days of Fundamentals, you can start the lower body stretch courses as well as Foundation One. You should be able to do nearly all of the stretches from the Front Split and Middle Split Courses, as well as the Lower Body and Core workouts from F1 during recovery, as most of those exercises don't involve the shoulder.

Of course, if you have any doubts about an exercise, check with your rehab specialist but all in all I think you will be able to get a lot of training in. You will surely still be able to make excellent progress with lower body strength and mobility and have lots of "fun" with the core training in F1! After you have recovered and have the docs approval, you can start to add in the rest of the training that involves the shoulders. Please always let us know if you have any other questions or would like ideas for modifications for some exercises.
