I myself had a house fire two days before christmas this year and was forced to live in a hotel for two months. this led me to bodyweight training. I taught myself a handstand in my hotel room and it took off from there. now I live in a rental house and hoping to get back into my own house by next week. It is websites like this one and people like Coach Sommer, Pavel, and all you people on the forums and those that write the articles that keep me training and helped me be at peace with the ridiculousness of my life in recent months. I'd like to thank you all for that and that includes Pavel and Coach Sommer and all the people on this forum and the Dragondoor Party.

Now, on to my real question: Why did YOU start gymnastics training?

Great sport, super fun, always something to learn, you're not a meat head but sure are strong, pull ups become a thing of the past. I would have to say less likely to get hurt, but at the same time you have to be careful, you are working with your own bodyweight but you are also working with extreme leverage. Like you said you can do it anywhere, and you can also show it off anywhere, the ladies find it attractive if you can do back flip-flops and handstands:wink: .

Wanted to do gymnastics my junior year of HS as I heard a rumor they were going to have it and it wasn't so. Eventually got into pole vaulting that year though my dad was into gymnastics in his youth under Robert Lynn in the 60's.

Eventually started tumbling in college for the college tumbling class mainly for cheerleaders and everyone else. There was a pair of ceiling rings and made a friend who was an optional level gymnast.

While there were plenty of good looking cheerleaders, and an ex gymnast who was optional or above, I really loved the physicality of it ( I had been into MA, trickn, etc before ).

Eventually I started coaching as a PT job and now it's my main job ( because I love working in shorts, disliked IT, don't really want to dig in anthropology or watch ppl or teach philo ). Besides working with kids can be preferable to working with adults ( in an office ).

At one point in time I thought gymnasts were uber athletes to do what they could, superhuman mentally and physically ( and they are incredible ); but I did end up finding they still are human.

Been strength training for years, had a whole room full of weights equipment. when me and my partner found out we were having a baby we needed a bigger property. I no longer felt I needed all my stuff and had my interest peaked by the Coach's article on t-nation.

All of a sudden I was excited by my training and decided to sell all my stuff (making a very tidy sum of money) managed to increase my partners maternity leave and buy some choice bits of equipment for a new small set-up in my new property.

Now I feel like a beginner again which is a great feeling!

Moving in 2 weeks 8)
