Most ''immature athlete'' possible at 37

Hi all

After training weights for 10 years I made the change to ''street workout/body weight training'' 5 years ago making ok progressions in BL (10 secs), FL (1 leg tuck) ,  10 x MUs (ring and bar), adv tuck planche 10secs, HF (4 secs) 20 pullups, 17 x 20kg dips, training 5/6 days a week never taking a week off.

About 2 years ago I hit massive fatigue physical and mental but like an idiot kept trained when I had some energy not even knowing the risks of ''over training'' or that it even existed and didn't have a clue about basic strength. (which I know know is the reason I hit plateau on a regular basis)

Over the last 2 months I have rested but when I train my muscles never seem to recover and I and still feeling mental fatigue. I can't give up training because it is part of me although I have to do something because I am just going further and further backwards. I can no longer hold a BL/FL, do a muscle up or hold even a tuck planche.

After recently listening to coach Sommer interview on the Tim Ferriss show I learned that I am top of the list for ''immature athletes'' and was wondering if any mature athletes could advise me if the foundation course would be right for me in my current situation I am willing to forget what i think I know and start from the basics.

Foundation 1 is going to be great for you, Garry. I think the structured programming is going to force you to recover and provide consistent improvement. Just stay patient with the course and you will reap the rewards.

That's the answer I was hoping for. It will be interesting starting for the beginning the proper way.

Thanks for the advise.

@Garry Barker I love your last paragraph… I am one of those "wanna be mature athletes" and constantly have to remind myself and have conversations with my inner "immature athlete"  :-)  anyway, I tend to do too many things and pushing my comfort zones all the time. I haven't really reached any overtraining like you, because ultimately I do listen to my body and rest, but definitely guilty of doing a lot, sometimes maybe too much. I found GB because I wanted to learn handstand for my pole dancing—new passion. As much as I wish I would be able to do a beautiful gymnastic quality handstand NOW, I am realizing that the program's progress is absolutely perfect and I just have to slow down, accept that this will take time, my pole fitness will take time, and I just go with the flow now. I added the Foundation a few weeks later and patiently working on it… When I for the first time encountered the deload week (last week), I realized that it was actually nice to do a little bit less than I do normally. I was not perfect and still "immaturely" added something else to my schedule, but I think I will become a little bit more "mature" as I am getting used to it. Enjoy there process, we have nowhere to rush… other than become slowly excellent  :-)

I can't believe how much over training can mess you up although at least I can say i'm a professional in something!! (not that it's anything to be proud of)

I like this, i will definitely keep it in mind
