Antony Stanley-Clarke
I have just had a bike accident, went over the handle bars and landed on both wrists. I have sprained the left and fractured the right at the distal end of the ulna. There is also a loose chip sitting somewhere around the triquetral bone from what i can remember of the xrays. I'm sure the fracture is going to heal up fine but i am concerned about the bone chip. Has anyone had any experience of this? Is it going to cause damage to the surrounding tissues as i load it in pressing positions? If it is, then should i look into it being removed? I really don't want this to become something which will mean i have to give up gst. I'd be really upset about that.
Everett Carroll
You should consult a physio to find out what is going to be safe for it. @Wesley Tan or @Mark Collins might have some advice for you.
Michael Anderson 232774
I would like to ask a question in this post because I am/was in a similar situation. About two year ago I also fell off my bike and sustained a fracture to my right distal radius. I had surgery for this and now have a steel plate and 8 screws attached to the distal end of my radius. It is fully healed and does not cause me pain at all. I have not started a GymnasticBodies training program yet but would like to. Does anyone out there know if this old injury will cause me to not be able to do this program or will I need to modify parts of it? Thank you. Everett Carroll
This is out of my scope. My best suggestion is to consult a physio to better understand your specific limitations.
Petra Dvorak
Hi Antony, how's it going by now?
Antony Stanley-Clarke
Hi everyone, thanks for all your responses. It's been 2 weeks today since my accident and i have been back to hospital a few times just to have it recast as it has got uncomfortable. The muscle wastage is unbelievably fast. I went through the x-rays with a cast technician last week and it's actually the distal end of the radius and not the ulna that looks like it could be fractured. Not 100% sure. I will be seeing a bone specialist this week so hopefully i'll have a more definitive diagnosis and prognosis then. There's no doubt that i have chipped the triquetral though. For sure i have sprained everything in the wrist too. So for now i am waiting until Thursday to see what the score is. I will be seeing a physio when the time is right. One thing they did mention was that the chip can dissolve or at least get rounded off, which is pretty cool. I wasn't aware that happens so as to not damage surrounding tissues. I have also been taking large doses of vitamin D3 and a normal dose of K2 daily. A nutritionist friend recommended them. I've also been reading about Serratiopeptidase, which is an enzyme found in silkworms that breaks down fibrin. However, i have held off on that for now until i speak to the bone specialist. I have heard that fibrin is important initially in the injury so i have held off for now. I will give another update later in the week.
Antony Stanley-Clarke
Update: About 10 days ago i went back to the hospital and the bone specialist said that there was no fracture of the radius or ulna and so the cast could come off. Great news. He said he thought the chip of bone from the triquetral would reintegrate, although i'm now not sure what that really means. I will be starting physiotherapy this week on the 29th courtesy of the NHS. So far there is still some swelling of the joint and knuckles but strength and flexibility has been very incrementally increasing day by day.
