Adrenal Fatigue?

Not sure where best to post this question, so here will have to do. Furthermore, I feel as though I already might know the answer to my question, but I always appreciate a second opinion.

So this microcycle I have been doing F7 2-day integrated, however, this week has afforded me less-than-ideal sleep with family visiting and a return from vacation. I was to do my second H1 workout of the week and the FSs today, however, I feel drained with a bit of brain fog and congestion in my throat. I personally think that more rest might be best, but I also tend to be pretty maniacal in my discipline towards training and so I'm not sure if I should tough it out or ease out the rest of this week and transition to a 1-day integrated F7 workout for the future.

Has anyone else experienced this? Biting off more than they can chew given limitations on proper recovery and nutrition? What was your experience? Would you have rested in my situation or toughed it out?

Hi Daniel,

Adrenal fatigue is a controversial topic among physicians, but I imagine many of us on this forum with more practical experience would agree to some extent that there is such a thing as doing too much with too little recovery. Just like you would listen to your appetite to help guide your eating habits, I think many of us type A personality types could benefit from listening to our bodies just a bit more in terms of rest and recovery.

That said, it goes both ways. If you are well-rested, well-fed, and feeling great on a particular day, perhaps that is an opportunity to test where you are on a few movements here or there (in a safe manner, of course). If you take a weekly, or even monthly, approach to your training, these kind of low, medium, and high days should hopefully all average out in the long run anyway.

Last thing: it does not need to be all or nothing. You can always do a low-intensity, perhaps mobility-based session on days where you are feeling "off." Best of luck!

So true! Listen to your body. I've just had 2 weeks being super busy at work, reduced sleep, missed meals. Yes it realy sucked! But that is life sometimes. I did next to no strenght training during this time. But I did do some mobility and stretching, mostly to make me relax. I hardly lost any strenght, the one thing I noticed was that my Handstand had become a bit worse. So if You can't keep away from the gym, work on mobility and HS.

Well. It's really for today. I intend to foam roll and maybe do some mobility, just think I overworked myself due to my under-rest (had I had normal/adequate rest I don't think I would've woken up as sluggishly as I did). But, I still intend to finish off my weekend with an FSs and TBs before getting back into F7 on Monday. As Coach said, you get better when you rest; and being that my obliques, forearms, triceps and quads are all acutely sore, I'm wise enough to know when I'm due for an extra rest day.

So, I guess F7 1-day integrated may be my best bet in terms of scheduling.

Sounds like you made a good call there. Hope the new week finds you well :)

Yeah, I just came to the realization (and accepted said realization) that F7 is beyond my work capacity. Doing Foundations 3 days a week is what's best. When I add in the stretch series (and an augmented HS routine, due to factors I've posted elsewhere), and an occasional HR run or two, three days of foundation is what allows me adequate recovery and stable energy levels. Perhaps, F7 will be attained down the road once I'm on F3 or F4 or maybe it won't. I'm not so much concerned with that as much as I am concerned with maintaining stable work capacity and steady progress. At this rate, I'm almost on to the 3rd progression for each element so I'm going to stick with what works.
