An incredible new vault was debuted during podium training at the recent University Games; a kas-in back-out. This is the first time this vault has ever been performed unto a regular landing surface at a competition venue. Essentially this is two back flips with a full twist on the first flip. The first video clip is at normal speed and the second is in slow motion.

With his powerful legs, this athlete typifies the phenotype of the tumbling/vaulting specialist.

Can he hold a cross on the rings?

I mean: can a gymnast with that good big legs be useful on other apparatus?

I'm sure that he can. For a world class athlete, holding an iron cross is an elementary element. Where his phenotype will be at a disadvantage is on the swinging events; primarily pommel horse and high bar as well as to a certain extent parallel bars depending on the skills which he chooses to focus on for that apparatus.

I have wondered sometimes if this would be an issue for me. Not having big legs but being so tall. I look at some of the exercises and since I am 6'1" tall, would I be at a disadvantage for certain skills?

And thank you for posting the video, they keep me motivated in my training.

Pretty much everything but I've seen some tall guys do very well at the Olympics or World's being tall for FX and HB is only detrimental when it comes to some of the releases. Vault could be doable for a tall guy but more than likely it may be easier for him to twist than to rotate.

in Glasgow Grand Prix he had 15,6 or 15,8....In finals aprox. 15,2. And from this year on the scores are little less then one point lower on rings then previous years...
