Do you need stall bars for MN/PE4 and above?

Just wondering if stall bars are neceessary for MN/PE4 and above?

Would stall bars make the movement harder? My guess is they would.

If you do need stall bars - is there a cheap alternative to buying them? Any DIY how-to's out there?

Thanks in advance everyone!

This is just what I've been doing as of late and in no way shape form a necessity to partake on your own part, but for me in my own situation, I have both the lack of training equipment and places to train at specifically, an in a infrquent fashion of even spotting place to train.

So I had two pieces of advice given to me which I'll make into one sentence, if something holding you back in training, it might be a good idea to stop doing the activity and do something else productive because it's still altogether beneficial for you in the long run and you can always come back when your situation improves, time freedom expands, and financially able to zone in on your goals.

I'm finding out very quickly that this is a journey to the end destination where your priorities will shift so that you can survive yet still accomplish other things even if it isn't in this case the gb program with the exception of most mobility exercises to keep limber on. My two cents.

There are other substitutions for many of these moves.  Basically a bar to hang from and something to block your back from leaning into the movement will take care of the strength elements.  (Like hanging from a power rack with a bar on the J-hooks behind your shoulders.)

That said, I built my own stall bars out of 2-1x6" and 1 3/8" Poplar Rungs for about $70.

You will need to have a set or have found a suitable alternative for PE5 and above.

There are several stall bar threads in the Equipment sub forum.

@Patrick Costello @Rayne Williams @everyone else interested!  - The answer is NO, you DO NOT need stall bars to complete MN/PE4 and above.

1) Get yourself a door frame pull up bar and mount it on the side of the frame opposite to where the door sits closed. They cost about £20. So you could buy 2 for the later side lever variations ;)

2) Mount it as high as you can leaving just enough distance to get your fingers over the top of the bar (you won't be able to straighten your legs out in a fully extended position but that doesn't really matter. You will just be starting the exercise in a slight flexed hip position (depending how tall you are).

3) Close the door behind you and thats your homemade stall bars (ish) BUT you may want to tie a yoga mat to the bar because as you curl up, C7 (seventh cervical vertebrae) will dig into the door and it's extremely uncomfortable.

So 1 x pull up door frame bar = £20

     1 x yoga mat =  £5

= Solid training and completion of foundation with desired effects for less than £30!!! BARGAIN!

In my last post I did say "You will need stall bars or have found a suitable alternative for MN/PE5 and above."

Oh wait...didn't you tell me the integrated mobility elements was just filler and because of all your experience you are somehow above doing the integrated mobility element?

People like to have useful information and black and white answers when asking questions, it's frustrating to be left in a cloud of smoke n mirrors and pointlessness.

......I gave the answer he was looking for :)

Okay. For just, the preparatory elements the cheap alternative mentioned by Mr. Andrew Graham (AKA: "HumanBios") may be a suitable alternative to just the top most rail on set of stall bars.

However for both the preparatory and integrated mobility elements, a complete set of stall bars or suitable and competent alternative will be needed. Please see post number 2, in this thread, for a link that will take an individual to a list of ideas for building a complete and competent set of stall bars at home.

MN/PE5>iM and another like it. The course video is complete demonstration one of the one rep.
