Jeff Walker
1) Do Ring Grips make it easier or harder to perform movements with a false grip?. I don't have ring grips but I do have these other grips, called versa grips - similar but not quite and I like to use them for other ring movements but holding a false grip with them seems impossible with bulk around the wrist. Sometimes, I'll wrap my wrist with J&J tape and even there - I find that the barehanded false grip is much stronger and secure than with a few layers of athletic tape. 2) I'd like to order a pair a ring grips because my hands take a beating and I have a white collar job, so any recommendations on brands and sizing? I bought a pair a year ago, I never used them because I couldn't fit my fingers in the figner holes so I sent them back. Is this common?
Joshua Slocum
1. Ring grips make it slightly harder to hold a false grip. 2.a Unless you're doing swing skills, your hands should toughen up fairly quickly. What kinds of problems are you experiencing?2.b Ring grips always come with very small finger holes. If you have larger fingers you want to take a piece of sand paper or emory paper (often the grips will come with this) and grind out the holes until your fingers fit through. Are you using chalk? If not, that's probably your biggest problem. If you're concerned about dust then look into getting liquid chalk.
Cody Ward
Are you planning on learning swinging skills? If not, there's no point in getting them.Yes, false grip will be harder.
Jurre
Why do gymnasts actually use those ring grips? I always thought it was for an easier false grip. Is it so the rings slide easier through their hands?

Keep in mind that the force instantaneous force can be many times one's body weight, so even an individual with an exceptionally strong grip may not be able to hold on.
Jeff Walker
I still dont understand how they hold a false grip with those grips. It seems like the bulk of the grip would interfere.
Daniel Burnham
It's harder and the grips do interfere. But doable. Requires the grips to be worn in and you end up exaggerating the grip to hold it better.
