Hey guys, I thought some might find this interesting to watch, I watched it while stretching/foam rolling:P

Its basicly a newsclip/documentary on the training leading up to Cirque Du Soleil, amazing athletes imo.

"More than half of Cirque performers come from a sports background" Only sport they show is artistic gymnastics.  And they practically say that they retire there.

Reminded me of this post: https://www.facebook.com/portal.ido/posts/316079771839707

Gymnasts truly are badasses. Also, it's pretty much impossible not wanting at least a little to make it into Cirque du Soleil when you watch this video!

Edit: Also, is it Yuri we catch a few glimpses of from 35:00?  :P

Great video, thanks for posting it !

I was disapointed for Yuri to not be selected. I hope for him that next time will be the one.

I will share here my friend's FB page and Youtube channel

He is just undergoing training for Cirque du Soleil in Montreal and will most likely perform in Totem. As far as I know Cirque contacted him with an offer to perform. I'm sure he will be adding some videos of him training.

Vladimir is an ex rings specialist and if I'm not mistaken he even outperformed Yuri van Gelder while competing as a junior. You can see some handbalancing videos on his channel, his progress on that is just incredible as I trained with him on daily basis for 5 months now. One week he couldn't even lower to one arm flag and two weeks later he held it for like 5s. He pretty much doesn't do any conditioning or strength training, as he was doing rings for 20 years but had to retire in 2011.

Here is an old video of him on the rings

For those of you who are not easily impressed I might point out that he is 177cm tall.

Very nice.  Beautiful planche press at 2:32.

Surprisingly good swing for a ring specialist.  Many times their techical swing tends to lag behind their strength.  Only weakness that jumped out to me was that his dismount was relatively weak in comparison to the rest of his routine.

This video is also nice as later in the video it shows how easy Foundation and Handstand work are for someone who is capable of advanced ring strength work.

Even a legs together 1 arm HS on PB! I seem to remember a post (or at a seminar) where coach said that ring specialists or people with much ring strength got the 1 arm HS relatively quick if they trained it.

About the swing - during one of our conversations he mentioned that ring specialists tend to have "ugly" swings because of their height, and that because of his height, the swings look better. Also he had to have the ring tower adjusted because sometimes he could brush the mat with his feet while hanging, as the tower was usually adjusted to someone who was 155-160cm

And the basic strength - Everything he was doing was effortless. 90° pushups, HSPU on rings, planches, HS presses... And handstands - he does all the rebalancing from his shoulders, he didn't understand my rebalancing from the wrists/fingers.

Due to the inherent instability of the rings themselves, rebalancing on rings does indeed occur from the shoulders.
