Free standing HSPU, do they have a positive carryover to planche push ups?

Only in terms of arm strength.

HSPU are performed with protracted and elevated scapula.  While Planche pushups are performed with protracted and depressed scapula.

Coach, from what you're saying here, I gather that the classic, amateur mistake in doing banana HeSPU is to do them with retracted, depressed shoulder blades, thus reinforcing the arching banana shape.

Could you perhaps elaborate on the position of the shoulder blades during a Hollow Back Press?

I'm eager to eventually learn a correctly hollow, full ROM HSPU, but don't know how much carryover there is from the HBP to the HSPU?

For the HBP you need to start from PPT position with hollow position so protraction and depression. Protraction will remain during all the movement. the depression decreases as the vertical component becomes higher then the horizontal component, ideally around 45-60° and becomes complete elevation in handstand.

Perfect answer.
