Rob Kowalski
At the park near my house a found a spot where I can grab onto 2 bars with my arms out straight like an iron cross. Is there any carryover from this to doing it on the rings? I would imagine not, because it felt more like pulling towards myself, instead of pushing down with my arms, but does it at least suggest that my elbows are ready for iron cross training? Any insight would be appreciated.
Mikkel Ravn
No idea about the rails. I would judge readiness by looking at the kind of preparation you had subjected yourself to up to this point. Coach Sommer has stickied an extensive list of iron cross prerequisites under the 'Rings' section of the forum, use that as a starter, and take his advice seriously
Piotr Ochocki
On those fixed setups people usually push outside, bars stay in place and suddenly cross appears easy .Do a simple experiment, put your hands flat on top of those bars and make sure you only push down and you don't push them (bars) out or pull towards your body, simply push down, this will give you some better idea how cross may feel (what on moving rings will be even harder ).

Rob Kowalski
Thanks all for the replies. I'm not surprised to hear that Coach. piotro, it was already quite late when I read your post but I gave it a try spanning my arms across two couches and it was definitely a completely different sensation. Much much harder too.
