Ring Dips and variations

This is a curious question.

I've re-injured a past injury of mines a couple weeks ago and have been doing physical therapy exercises that have been improving this injury on my right shoulder. (It's a shoulder impingement) However, these occured due to adding excessive weight on regular rings dips.

Now, I've noticed something after re-evaluating ring dips in general when I first started. I noticed that their was immence pressure on the right shoulder around where my subscapularis is. I've also tested and noticed the same pressure when doing bar dips.

I did 1 set of attempting bulgarian dips today after 2 weeks of pt to see how it is and to my surprise it feels absolutely pain free. A fellow poster "Keilani" posted in one of my topics of having the "structure" needed to perform a specific movement and this had me thinking, what if my shoulder girdle in general were not made to do dips in general, or at least, regular dips? This bugs me a bit since dips are my favorite upper body exercise and for 1-2 years the same pressure has always been on my right shoulder.

Is it alright that after I finished my pt that I should go ahead and replace regular ring dips with bulgarians?

I didn't mean that your body is not mean for dips! if you think you can escape their wrath in pursuing Gymnastic level strength, you are mistaken(unless you really need to

you just need to focus on first doing what is in front of you(healing and getting back to working capacity) then gradually working upto doing full ROM dips.

since im a newb and fresh from Foundation work, im not exactly qualified to give you a safe alternative. this i will leave open for someone more qualified to give you a better course of action

Oh no, I know what you perfectly well meant by the structure of the body. I didn't mean no insult if I provided any to you.

This was just a curiousity of mine and I tend to get very curious of movement lately and when it's left unanswered for days I get very ansy and go forth experimenting. My injury has been a lot better lately and seriously can't wait to experiment more. (After I am 100% of course =D)

Thanks to you my mind is more open.

However, thanks for your input on trying to escape regular ring dips >.< Guess I need to be 100% and slowly work back up again.

no offense at all!

i just can't in good conscious recommend anything that would do any harm or mislead someone with my current level of understanding(which is minimal at best)

if you have a copy of BTGB, look at all the progressions that come before Dips. that can be an indication of what you need to work on first before working Dips seriously. (when i mean seriously, i mean that the beforehand progressions would have been milked for what they're worth and that the time haa begun to become even stronger working Dip progressions and eventually HSPU progressions. by then dips and pushups will only serve as a warm up.)

Have you tried RTO dips? :P

Not sure how that would affect my right shoulder..........pretty sure it'll make my impingement worst LOL
