Requesting motivation

 I thought that if Coach Sommer (too busy) or someone else could direct me through what basic strength I should have by suggesting certain things to track in my signature for evaluation, I would be ever so greatful. :D

Examples would be:

How many pullups can you do in one go? You should be able to do...

How many pushups can you do in one go? You should be able to do...

These are just examples of what I am used to. If there are things I should be able to do to have a general base of strength in various exercises or positions to begin with, I would like to work toward a baseline. Then, with that baseline, I could show progress from there, but I feel like I have a ways to go to get to a beginning point.

One thing I am hoping for through practicing the progressions is discipline in my conditioning. I am too haphazard and random. I end up hurting myself thinking I should be able to do something. A carry-over from my youth I suppose. I have no choice but to buckle down and work on it, because I am getting older and things will keep getting harder.

There is a lot of experience on this forum, thank you all for sharing.

Hi kintelary and welcome to the forum!

Strength is not defined by a certain number of repetitions or sets, strength is just a way to get your body to the next level. To me 20 pull-ups are much, for a trained gymnast that's just warm-up! ;) Do you get my point?

The best thing for you is just to start with a workout where you count your reps and numbers. After that you know exactly what your capabilities are right now and (depending on your goals) where you could be in a couple of weeks/months/years. If it is a certain exercise which you want to be able to do, inform yourself about the level of this exercise. You will soon find out, that some movements or exercises require a certain amount of strength and if that doesn't equal your numbers you are at the moment too weak -> keep on training. I hope that helps you a little

Thanks!

I see your point. I just want to make sure that I follow a few rules of baseline strength in my back or shoulders or legs to not get injured doing any of the progressions. I am avoiding handstand work because I am too heavy right now. I am looking at Wall Walking into a Bridge before trying to Bridge on the floor anymore.

I would like to be able to back limber and front limber properly this year. I don't know what kind of timeframe I should expect to be able to do those things, but I don't want to set my goals unrealistically close and then injure myself trying to meet them.

I would like to have a good base in proper positions with arch and hollow and bridge and handstand and candlestick.

Once I have a good base, I would like to do body levers and support levers and front levers. But I don't know how to train all of these things at once and not sure what would be best to start with.

My friend and I are discussing going in together to buy the book. But, does the book supply any "do this before you do this" information besides the progression orders?? If I had that with the book, I would have a lot more questions answered I am sure.

Still, it is a financial investment and I need to be sure we can afford it and then will get what we think we needed.

Hi there, Im around 2 weeks new to this Forum 8) I don't have Coach Sommer's gymnastics training book and i might go off-topic but anyways, I make my own training routine and I only have 22.1kg dumbbells and a iron lollipop (forearm weights) and push-up grips for doing my L-sits and tuck-planche similar holds and at my backyard I also have a chin-up/pull-up bar.

So pretty much Im home-style lols, But i wish i went to a gymnastics club to learn the pommel-horse or rings but I only use what i have at home and it still works pretty great. (I think im off-topic sorry)

(p.s is that you in your display picture)

Welcome to the boards. Coach and others have good advice and encouragement. Look around.

Keep training, it is all about moving the body. The more you move, the better you feel, the stronger you are, the easier you move.

And... yes, the pic is me a few months back. I will change it when I get a new one I like.
