King of the Forum

Coach and I discussed the idea of bringing in challenges for the members. The goal is to foster competition and community.

-The winner becomes "King of the Forum" and has their avatar and name on top of the leader board as well as the fancy title and some sort of additional visual to their posts.

-Challenges will come randomly across time or who gives it.

-Challenges can either be creative or physical. The idea is that one always needs to be prepared in their training or otherwise because no one has an idea what's coming next.

-The first challenge will be putting together the best H1 or F1 promo video.

-Points are awarded based on ranking for a challenge. Top 10 place get points (10th = 1 pt, 1st = 10 pt). The leader board will show top 25 places overall.

-To gain the "King of the Forum" title, you have to beat the current King. It is not enough to tie.

Additional ideas to debate:

-Which challenges offer some sort of reward will be random. The competition should be sufficient to keep members interested, but random rewards seems a nice extra bit of motivation. There might be a rare seminar discount in there or such :P

-If a moderator wins, they get 2 extra points. It should be a big deal for members to try and outdo the mods.

-Recruit Allan on occasion as a "compete against a Jr National Team member" challenge.

Challenge 1: Promo Video Rules

1) The video must promote either F1 or H1

2) You may only film yourself or those whom you have permission to do so.

3) You must observe copyright laws (e.h. no Dragon Ball Z pictures)

4) The promo must be between 0:50 and 1:10 in length

5) The video must observe good taste

6) Judging will be done on video quality and creativeness rather than skill level

Good stuff, this could be really fun for the forum members.

How will the ranking be done?

Subjective challenges: Judged by the four of us

Objective Physical challenges: based on performance

Nic Branson

This could be great to increase forum interaction and community development!

Cole Dano

On subjective, what do you think of giving the forum members a vote?

Either way works for me.

Nic Branson

A poll for members interesting. Maybe for special challengws we include that. As we vote should safely assume the four of us are out.

Cory Fair

Physical challenges that are simple to objectively measure wouldn't exclude us from participating. I personally would enjoy Coach coming in on one and kicking some butt.

Nic Branson

I can agree with that. Just want it transparent for members.

Coach crushing people would be damn motivating.

Coach Sommer

Good suggestions, guys.

- the leader board should show top 10 only. First get half the display, second and third much smaller, and fourth thru tenth much smaller still.

11th and lower will need to work harder to get on the board.

- initially the four of us will judge. Once the concept of the Leader Board gains some momentum occassionally the members can vote.

Cory Fair

When would we like to kick this off? The initial video challenge will be roughly a month long.

Coach Sommer

- Let's do a mock up of the Leaderboard first so that it is ready to go.

- The Leader Board will be a "live" document.  They stay up on the top until the moment they are knocked off.  This gives them a chance to try and regain their spot and will also make the competition much more intense and involving.

Cory Fair

Something like this?

https://www.gymnasticbodies.com/forum/page/leaderboard

We will plug in the King's avatar and name plus any additional information we think should go there.

Coach Sommer

- Roughly.  The language used brings back lots of good memories!

- But let's combine the wannabes on the right half of a single board.  By definition a wannabe is someone who is NOT numero uno.

- Let's also use a slightly larger font for the top 3 wannabes.

Updated

Cole Dano

That's nicer, compact easy to read.

Nic Branson

Very nice to read that way.

Coach Sommer

Much better.  Now let's shrink it down so it doesn't take over the whole forum.  :)

Did you want this as a page to itself or as a block somewhere on the forum?

Coach Sommer

A block on the forum.

Cory Fair

-On the sidebar or top?

-Just the index or every page?

Cory Fair

Would our pool of competitors be large enough for this as an initial contest?

Coach Sommer

Perhaps a wall handstand?

Or best 10 Russian Dips?  Or best 5 Russian Dips in L?

Or 5 best Korean Dips?

Cory Fair

-I'm leaning towards wall handstand as it's much easier to objectively judge a difference between top contestants.

-Or with the dips, the most sets of five Russian Dips in L with correct form?
