Connor Davies
I'm on the fence about buying the foundation 1 book (I know, I shouldn't be) but I have limited access to equipment and I would be unable to do 2/7ths of the program. My current set up is a leverage door frame pullup bar which I hang rings off. Without access to stall bars, vertical poles or anywhere to hang a rope, I would be unable to work on the rope climbing and side lever progressions. While 5/7ths of the best Gymnastic Strength Training™ program is better than my current slapdash efforts at programming, I want to know if I would be able to discuss alternatives with someone affiliated with the program, should it be necessary. As I understand it, the various pieces of the program work in synergy, and I'd hate to leave out any necessary work. So coach (or anyone else reading this) I know you disapprove of people changing the foundation program, but is there an alternative program that requires less equipment? Not everyone has access to a full gymnastics gym you know! (This is me being jealous) I want the book, I know it's great, but I want to make sure I can get the most out of it. Craig Mallett
im midway through foundations 1 and so far the equipment I have used is: vertical poleoverhead bar (chinup bar whatever)ringswall1 16kg kettle bell1 light dumbbella table that is fixed to the ground (park bench table, it needs to be very sturdy so it doesnt tip with all your weight on it)broomstick.Playground climbing ladder (in place of stall bars - not used very frequently) all of this stuff is available at pretty much every single one of my local playgrounds/schools, so I just go there and exercise I have been able to do all of the exercises properly, and looking ahead should be fine for some time.
Jean-Rene Losier
Why not just go to your local gym? no need to go to a gymnastic gym. At least you'll have MOST equipment needed there.
Kevin Conley
It is 10 degrees outside where I am lol. Why does everyone seem to assume we live in summer everywhere, all the time on the forums? Also, not everyone has access to a gym, and even then, what if at home you can use the rings, but at the gym you cannot, but the workout calls for equipment at the gym & the rings? Those are problems some have (I did, but figured it all out). I figured it out by paying a little of money, but not everyone has those options.
Eric Heiden
As craig says - this doesn't require access to a full gymnastics facility. Things you will need: the floor,a pull-up bar, rings, something you can lay on with your legs hanging off the side,a sturdy pole or doornob - something to grab while leaning backwards, one 5lb, one 10-15lb dumbell, dedication And @Prometheus - we don't assume that everyone has access to a gym or that they can work out in the cold - I think we just assume that if you want to do the program and gain the benefits that you will put in the effort/time/money to either gain access to the right equipment or build it yourself. The programming is there - it's up to you to figure out how to get it done.
Randeep Walia
Cannister- of the equipment you listed which one is substituting for the rope?
Eric Heiden
There is no actual rope climbing in foundation 1.
Michael Traynor
Cannister- of the equipment you listed which one is substituting for the rope?If Foundation 4 is when full rope climbing comes in then you could (as previously suggested in WODs containing cirques) substitute reps of towel pull-ups instead. Where there's a will there's a way.
Coach Sommer
In terms of both GB Forum Ranking and GB Certification, towel pullups are not be an acceptable substitute for rope climbs. In fact there are no substitutes for rope climb. You will need to purchase a rope. Yours in Fitness,Coach Sommer
Stewart Whaley
A lot of the equipment complaints can be resolved with a bit of Googling and do-it-yourself work.If you have a problem finding a solution, post the equipment replacement needed and some details about why you are unable to find a solution. This is not an attack on the OP, but an example:"I am confined to a 4 foot box" is a real issue. "I have spent zero time trying to find a creative solution," is not.I'm sure the board will have plenty of suggestions.I have made all of the equipment I need for F1 and suspect I am covered for most of F2-4 already.
