jamesters
W2hwR6KgCUg www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2hwR6KgCUgThat's my sticking point. I get to my other forearm, but don't feel a "catch" like I do in regular air flares. I just get to the forearm and my body collapses like a god damn limp wrist. Is there anything about my technique that can help me catch myself on my slut forearm or is it mostly practice to develop strength to catch yourself and keep it going? Alessandro Mainente
ha ha ha elbowairflares my love and my hate....this is more difficult then regular airflare, first of all maintain and generate strength and balance over the elbow is more difficult expecially if you are trying to maintain the body more diagonal. respect the airflare maintain the rigth leg up is more more more important; rigth leg stay always above the head, is the secret to do regular elbowairflare. second thing in airflare you have more time to wait over the hand befor the jump so you doon't need really a big legs swing. on the other side on elbow you do not have the same degree of lean so the swing is more important. in fact if i do elbowairflare from elbowstand position i do high jump but not wide jump!my tip is add some swing from the start.start fomr standing positionswing your leg putting your left hand down with extra intra rotation then use al the torque to generate swing. ideally you start to put down the elbow when tour left wrist can't rotate more. this is the time to use legs and elbow.i prefer to teach to my class to do as for the airflare elbow freeze jump to the other elbow then go to basic freeze. as for the airflare learn the basic transition to windmill, then to the 1990, then 2n round of elbowairflare.great role play the head. stay with head in position and try to anticipate the jump putting the head under the angle formed on the left elbow.always do it slowly to control it
jamesters
Cool, I tried applying these tips. I did the best I've ever done!ccLGESHm2wk www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccLGESHm2wkI feel like I'm catching myself now, but can't keep it going for multiples. Is it just a matter of keeping my hips up higher, or is there more to it than that?
Mikael Kristiansen
Your second clip is really good. thats what you want to do. Notice that in the first clip your arm does NOT land where your centre of mass is, while in the second clip it does. It all has to do with getting the hip to twist properly. Now you can do it to windmill, so keep practising that so it becomes very very easy. Then try to either go to flare or to another elbow. But as i said, the most important is that you learn how to catch and let the momentum carry on as it does when you drop to windmill. Notice also how your rotation is actually better in your elbow than in your normal airflare.
