How does one go about losing bodyfat for gymnastics if cardio is not done at all?

Diet. Bodyfat is always diet.

[oversimplification]Weight loss occurs when your daily calorie intake is exceeded by your daily metabolic output. 3500 calories is about a pound of fat. If each day you eat 3000 calories and burn 3500, you'll lose a pound of fat a week. [/oversimplification]

Gymnastics may not be cardio, but you do burn up a decent amount of calories when you spend an hour on strength training. More importantly, though, increasing your muscle mass will greatly increase your standing metabolism. That means that you'll burn more calories during the day regardless of the activity you're doing.

The other piece of the puzzle is of course diet. If you want to lose body-fat, you need to make sure that you're eating less calories than you burn, while still getting enough protein and micro-nutrients to sustain your muscle mass.

I remember that being something like 6 calories per day per kg of muscle mass. Joshua ought to know.

And to clarify, some gymnasts do use cardio in their programming. It's not excessive or maybe even that often, but for some it is there.
