Quick Start Test Smith
Hi,I've been looking all over PubMed and WebMD for articles on Micellar Casein digestion/absorption rates but I can't find any specifics! Does anyone here know how much Micellar Casein an 19 year old male can absorb per hour?
Larry Roseman
http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/nutrit ... art-2.html"Yesterday, in What are Good Sources of Protein? – Digestion Speed Part 1, I looked briefly at the issue of protein turnover and synthesis and then looked even more briefly at the now infamous Boirie study that kicked off the interest in fast and slow proteins.Summing up, that study found that whey and casein (the two proteins found in milk) digested at different speeds, with whey being a ‘fast’ protein that spiked amino acid levels before dropping (after 3-4 hours), and casein being a ‘slow’ protein that raised amino acid levels more gradually but remaining stable for an extended period (7-8 hours)."Look up the Boirie study. It used Micellar Casein. Also http://www.brothersofiron.com/showthread.php?t=1726 is a thought provoking interview with the author of that study. Quick Start Test Smith
Thanks, Fin. I mostly found the same figure of 7-8 hours, but I couldn't find the answer to what I really wanted to know which is how much can actually be used per hour. I use whey as 10g/hour and only 10g at a time, but I wanted to use MC as a meat replacement (not always, just sometimes). If I could use it to release over 3-4 hours instead of whey's 1 hour release, I wouldn't have to eat so much meat and I would also be able to be more consistent with my protein. Eggs are great (for three hours at a time) but humans can only use about 3-4g of the protein per hour if I remember correctly. I think MC is much higher than that. Larry Roseman
The article from the first link shows a table, whey @8-10g/hour and casein@ 6.1. HoweverI'd say based on the 7-8 hours casein should be lower, more like 5/hour. That's about the same as meatwhich has the fat and connective tissue which slow down digestion somewhat.
