Ryan Verma
Hi!I'm looking to set up a rope climb in my basement. I've got 8 ft of space from ceiling to floor, so If i start while seated, I'll get at least 5 ft of climbing in.My question is this: What are the dimentions of the rope? What is it called and where would I be able to find it? I live in Canada, if that helps anyone. Any google searches for climbing rope brings up stuff about mountain climbing or rock climbing ropes. I can't seem to find the proper guage of the ropes hanging from the ceiling in gyms. Thanks!
David Barclay
Hi, I am from Canada as well, and ordered my rope from an ebay seller. I ordered 25 feet, and caused a bit of a stir when it arrived at my office. 'What the hell is that for, our new fire escape??" I called a number of boating supply places here (I am in Ottawa) but no one had anything close to 1 1/2 inches.Check out item 370566829760 on Ebay.It is 1 1/2 manila climbing rope, which is the general width you will find. Some people here use 2 inch, but generally 1.5 is fine. Guaranteed to give you hands of sandpaper after a couple weeks usage. I think these are the same people I ordered from, but I can't confirm as it was a while ago.Lots of info in this forum about 'rope clamps' and various splicing methods.yours,David
Ryan Verma
Thanks a ton! 30 ft is definitely too much for me, and with the price of it, I think I'll try and look around for a smaller length. I'm heading to Edmonton for Christmas, so maybe I'll have some luck there. At least I know what I'm looking for now! Thanks!
