Samuel Carr
I keep hearing about trueprotein.com and how it's supposed to have a lot of cheap supplements/protein mixes available and so I just checked it out but was pretty overwhelmed with all the options and sub-categories there are, especially when it asks what percentages of a supplement you want in your mix. I have been using whey protein, casein, and creatine monohydrate regularly, along with a little caffeine powder, but I am running low and don't want to go back to GNC. Could someone please help me choose or offer advice?
Blairbob
What exactly do you want to use it as? Pre or post workout or nightime or to just get some extra protein every day? For pre/during workout I would make sure you are getting some BCAA's. I'm not sure you can get creatine through them as I haven't checked. If you're going to eat a meal 1-2 hours after taking it post workout, I don't see the need for any casein. Casein would be good if you are using before sleep. Samuel Carr
I mostly follow Slizzardman's Perfect Pre Mid and Post Workout Nutrition article. So i've been taking some whey before my workout as well as about 5g of creatine. I just checked trueprotein.com and they do sell creatine monohydrate (they also have BCAAs). Then immediately after I'll take some more whey. I have been taking about 15g of casein before I go to bed at night. So I guess you could say I'm using it pre, post wo, and at night but there is definitely a bigger emphasis on post workout since for pre workout I have been focusing on a combination of vegetabes/fruit, creatine, and a multivitamin. My goal is to gain around 5-10lbs by January so I've been trying to eat a lot
Samuel Carr
I've decided to get the 25lb recession whey, creatine monohydrate, and BCAAs. They have several different kinds of BCAAs listed here: http://www.trueprotein.com/product_list ... cid=25&v=2 (some under BCAAs and some more under Branched Chain Amino Acids). Is there one in particular that would be recommended?
Quick Start Test Smith
Hey, element. TP offers a lot of different types of BCAAs, but this is the cheapest: http://www.trueprotein.com/Product_Deta ... 25&pid=314It's probably not the best tasting that they have, but as long as you put the amount you want in a very small volume of liquid (6-8 oz) it's easy to swallow it with one gulp and then wash down what's left. I take as many as 3-4 servings a day some days. It's worth it.
Blairbob
FWIK, most BCAA drink mixes taste horrible but are tolerable. Our girls at the gym wanted to try mine (probably because water gets boring and it was pink lemonade). I figured it was worth the humor factor as they noted it had a pretty bad aftertaste. Almost decent at first and then got nasty. Nowadays, I prefer to get them non flavored and just mix them up. 5-10lbs, eh? While protein powder will help your workouts, you are basically still gonna have to stocking up on lots of meats and starchy carbs. I take you are shooting for a lean 5-10lbs gain? That's the one I was thinking of getting too.Ya 5-10lbs lean gain is my goal. My body fat is under 10% right now and I want to keep it that way plus it's pretty hard for me to gain weight so this is going to take a lot of effort. I realize the protien powder only has marginal benefits but the 25 lb recession bag seems to be pretty cost effective in the long run and i figure as long as i keep it cool and dry it will last as long as several yearsAs far as taste goes, it's the last thing I care about. It's easy enough to just swallow it in a gulp anyways
