Hello, if you have desire to train, there is no obstacles no matter where you live, but also every floor you can walk on it is a good for the start. There is a lot of info on this forum about training, and I suggest that you first start with post - Prerequisites (Getting started), and then read a lot about others. If you want to join a gymnastic club and you must travel 40 miles for it, the only problem is if you dont have a time for this. If this not the case, then 40 miles is nothing compare to what you get. Probably you dont know what you exactly want (goals) at this time, so the more you read about gymnastics and exercises in generally, the more you will put yourself in some direction. In 30+ age, you must take things in your hands. If you find some gymnastic coach to monitor what you do in the first hand, then better. If not, the hope is not lost, because everyone here have the coach Sommer to give some recommendation, but also the members, not to mention books, video, etc. Good luck !

Roger goes over both forward and backward rolls and cartwheel progressions, besides Parallette basics and press to handstands. He also has a stretching section with some pictures (not all the stretches have corresponding pictures)

I haven't read any of those gymnastics books. Most of the ones I've come across are older books in libraries or at the gyms I've worked at.

Do you have Coach Sommer's book yet?
