LaughingTiger
Looking for some help from the GB community. I'll soon have a space that's 9 ft x 11 ft x 8 ft high to exercise in! While I work on getting the space cleared out, I'm debating on what I'll buy and build for the gym. Given the dimensions of the space I have to work in, what are some things that should be included in my new gym?Edit: I currently have a pair of rings, various dumbbells, and a 20 lb weight vest. I have a door frame pull up bar, but plan to replace it with something else.
Nicholas Sortino
Rings at a minimum. Pull up bar is also very nice, as are parallel bars/dip bars big enough to do russian dips on. Some sort of mat to put under the rings for XR HS if they scare you like them do me. Lacrosse Balls and stretch band for mobility work. Stahl Bars if you are handy with wood. And if you want to branch out from GB some, perhaps a girya?
LaughingTiger
I have always wanted a pair of stall bars, I know a few people who could help to make sure I do a good job with construction. I feel I'm better with electrical and plumbing work than I am with wood work. I'm also considering some kind of power rack type structure.I hadn't really thought about girya, but I could see myself using them in addition to the dumbbells I already have. Robert Stejskal
First list your fitness goals. Next, sketch out your ideal fitness routine to meet those goals. Then determine the equipment necessary. Then do a cost benefit analysis of each exercise given the necessary equipment (so things like cost, space, etc). You will also want to honestly assess the probability that you will use the equipment long-term (meaning, avoid impulse buys).Repeat the process until you have a routine you think works for you and a necessary equipment list.
