I'll throw in that Dave is no way 6'1. Don't know where anyone got that idea lol. Have met the guy and see him every once in a blue moon. He's about 5'7 at best. Stocky though. 190-200lbs. And he's strong, though his straight arm techniques aren't the prettiest. He can do planche/maltese on rings though with an arched back and not quite protracted scapula. His Iron Cross is pretty solid.  He has a >1 year old baby and has pics of him holding a cross wearing the baby in a carrier :). Impressive for a 200lb guy who started training with minimal guidance as an adult.

I think full planche for guy above 6 ft is imposible.

Let me just say that this attitude is as old as humanity. Often, people will confuse things that are hard with what they think is humanly possible.

If one were to ask in the universe of people who are 6'+ how many have dedicated themselves 100% to developing the planche? My guess would be less than 1/10,000 of men (or women) 6'+ have trained consistently to attempt planche.

To illustrate why I think we need to revisit this attitude, let's segue to the sport of high altitude mountaineering (I could have used examples from other sports, but this one will be easy to relate to).

Reinhold Messner, the Tyrolean mountaineer, was told over and over by medical doctors and all kinds of "smart" people that is was impossible to scale a mountain 8,000+ meters without the use of supplemental oxygen.

Their argument gained a lot of traction because nobody had done it before. Experts and all kinds of knowledgeable people assumed that it couldn't be done.

These "experts" even went so far as to do simulated experiments in laboratories that "proved" that it was impossible for a human being to stand over 8,000+ meters without an oxygen mask.

* Bear in mind that that's the typical cruising altitude of most planes. *

Well, we now know that in 1978, Messner climbed Everest (over 29,000 ft) without supplemental oxygen, silencing all but the very dogged of all naysayers. In 1980 he climbed Everest solo again without supplemental oxygen and silenced the recalcitrant holdovers.

Absence of evidence does not mean evidence of absence.

And manna is impossible for an adult to learn without previous gymnastics training too... Certainly for someone two inches shy of 6 feet.

If the guy who can do it says it's impossible, i'd listen.

Daniel, if that's the case then how come it is included in GB? I would imagine that a lot of people on the GB programme have no previous gymnastics training. How far do you think someone could go then with the manna if they continue through foundations? i'm over 6feet so i take it then that i have absolutely no hope haha.

Sorry. I guess I thought sarcasm would transfer given the thread.

It is definitely possible!

He was referring to himself there ^_^

I go to youtube all the time. This planche shown here is among the worst I've seen of the straight arm ones.

It is possible, i'm 100% sure about that. I learned straddle in 4 months, i'm a little bit stuck now because my shoulders are not too strong. But i won't give up at any time, because i know, if i achieve full planche with this height 6.2, i will go beyond and learn maltese.

Nothing is impossible if your mind and body can achieve it.

The longer the body, the bigger the force on your shoulders. When i point my toes, my length is 2.05 meter. That's why i have hard time extending my feet any longer from straddle.

Post a video of you doing straddle planche so we can se is your form ok.

Every planche attempt video at 6 ft height i've seen so far dont worth anything. And i bet that nobody on this forum have seen perfect form planche at 6 ft height or more.

184cm should not be a problem; GB's tallest student is 198cm.  :)

At that height, Erik has amazing mobility, front lever, press handstand and nearly a manna.
