werry good!

In "wide muscle up" is quite good pressure on sholders, so he must have strong sholders.

Yep, good elbow and shoulder strength and stability are a must for that. I can remember whenever I went wide and failed, it was quite uncomfortable. It didn't real feel great either pushing through it wide and tended to be a lot of effort.

I see you are training iron cross

Now the next move, from muscle up (somewhere near in the midlle, mybe a bit higher) to iron cros with the band and spotter. Of course also ordinary cross.

Coach Sommer

Very Nice Wide Grip Muscle-up

Nice work by your nephew, Serotonin. Please pass on my congratulations to him.

I liked that his motion was nice and smooth on the muscle-up. Also he had excellent width on the muscle-up as well. For those who have not yet attempted them, the strength required for a wide grip muscle-up is substantially greater than for a regular narrow grip muscle-up. They are also an excellent supplemental exercise for iron cross training as well.

Yours in Fitness,

Coach Sommer

Awesome, like Coach said really smooth transition. That's the thing I really like about Coach's 'system', nearly everywhere else I've read about muscle-ups they say to really explode through the transition (or do something that will equate to that) whereas Coach's method builds strength in that range of motion. How old is your nephew and how long has he been training? If you don't mind me asking.

He is 19, and he never trained gymnastics just tenis, but he is skinny and he was able to do a press handstand (straddle) with straigth arms at his first try, that muscle up was after three months of training on rings (not specially that movement, althoug one year ago we learned the muscle up but stopped training on rings after three months ( so a total of 6 months but not continuous), one day after reading coach article about 'failure developing strength in muscle up' i told him about the variations of the muscle up, to go strict and slow and also the wide grip and he tryied and i recorded 8) .
