His inverted cross is perfect, then he has to go and press into it. Makes rings look easy. He also has the most flair and elegance on rings.

When i was a kid I remember watching Alexander Dityatin. Was he the tallest ever world champion on rings 1979, 1981, and olympics gold in 1980. He was also all around chamoion too. How tall was he? He looks about 5foot 10inches in the clip from the link below (sorry not embedded in my reply wasn't sure how). Interested to hear from you experts if we'll ever have an all around champion this tall again? Obviously a lot less difficulty in his routine than now but it was 30y ago!

He performed Iron Cross and Planche, quite good for his time and very good for his height

Height: 5'10" (178 cm)

Weight: 154 lbs (70 kg)

Aleksandr Dityatin set an Olympic record in the gymnastics competition at Moscow by 1980, by winning a medal in all eight gymnastics events. The record is also the most medals won by any athlete at a single Olympics, since equaled by Michael Phelps in swimming in 2004. His three gold medals came in the team and individual all-around, and on the rings, to which he added four silvers and a bronze medal. His finest performance was in the horse vault when he received the first perfect score (10) awarded to a male gymnast at the Olympics. He was equally dominant at the World Championships, winning 12 medals (seven gold, two silver, three bronze). His best year was 1979 when he was all-around champion, and won gold medals on the rings and the horse vault. Dityatin was also all-around World Cup champion in 1978 and 1979.
