Did your friend a GB program?He just do asanas(yoga positions) as conditioning.In GB terms you can say he just do static holds for strength and flexibility, no repetition is allowed in this method.This approach can develop a great level of body conditioning but for maximal strength i personally found some plateaus years ago only trespassed using the gymnastic conditioning with repetitions.
